Rockets track teams run past Sharon

Slippery Rock High's Abby Basta won the 100-meter hurdles with at time of 16.54 seconds Tuesday as the Raiders girls beat Sharon 96-48.

Dan Dillman won both the discus and the shot put, and Abby Basta and Casey McCaffrey were part of three winning events on the girls side to lead the SlipperyRock High School track and field teams to a sweep of Sharon Tuesday afternoon.

Dan Hartzell won the 3,200-meter run and NathanKing took the 1,600. They also teamed up as members of the winning 3,200-meter relay team to lead the boys to a 86-63 triumph over the Tigers.

The girls, 96-48 winners over Sharon, got solid performances from Basta and McCaffrey, who each won two individual events and were members of the winning 1,600 relay team.

In other meets:

• Matt Celestin won the long and high jumps, Nolan Brink won the shot put and discus and Doug Moran won the 100 and 200 to lead the Butler boys to a 127-23 victory over Hampton.

In the girls meet, Butler received first-place finishes from Hannah Rekich in both hurdles events and from Kendall Butch in the pole vault and high jump in a 100-50 win over the Talbots.

• Merissa Malcolm set a Freeport school record in the pole vault, clearing 9-feet, as the Yellowjackets rolled to a 123-27 win over Springdale.

The boys also claimed a 99-49 win. Both the Freeport boys and girls teams are 6-0 this season.
