Paul E. Hutchison, 79, of Lakeview Drive died at 11:58 a.m. Thursday at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He had a keen sense of humor and a treasure chest of jokes for every occasion.

Born July 4, 1928, in Butler, he was the son of John V. and Nina B. Kepple Hutchison.

Mr. Hutchison was a physics/science teacher at Butler High School for 30 years and retired in 1989.

He graduated from Butler High School in 1946. He enrolled in the pre-med program at University of Pittsburgh, where he joined ROTC and was later called into service. He became a Marine and served in Korea from 1948 to 1952.

When he returned, he attended Clarion State College, now Clarion University. He played football and when asked what position he played, he said, "desperate end." He graduated in 1959, and a year later married the love of his life, Patricia J. McCandless.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was an active member in the Bantam Marine Corp League Detachment 749 and the Toys for Tots program. He also volunteered many hours at Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center helping with social activities and crafts. He enjoyed woodworking and bowling, but his first passion was golf.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Racek, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia J. McCandless Hutchison, who died Feb. 28, 2005; and by three brothers, John V., Warren D., and Robert C. Hutchison.

<B>HUTCHISON</B> — Friends of Paul E. Hutchison, who died Thursday, March 20, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Thomas Pierotti officiating.
