Torri Smith had 23 points, seven rebounds and five steals as the Union girls basketball team slipped past Karns City 47-45 in a Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference game Friday night.

Courtney Frederick added 13 points, six assists and six steals, and Tina Lipps added eight rebounds for the Damsels (4-0, 1-0).

Union led 40-28 through three quarters before a 17-7 fourth-quarter outburst by Karns City (2-2, 1-1) fell just short.

The Gremlins had 14 points and 10 rebounds from Ashley Campbell, and 12 points, six assists and six steals from Allyson Kepple.
