County narcotics officers Tuesday arrested a woman for allegedly selling crack cocaine to a police informant last year in Butler.

Renee L. Simons, 51, was arraigned on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance.

She was released on her own recognizance following arraignment.

The Butler County Drug Task Force began investigating the case in September, authorities said, after an informant reported crack and heroin were being sold out of a house on Spang Avenue.

Officers identified Simons as one of the home's occupants.

The informant claimed that the defendant, according to a task force report, had allowed an unknown dealer to set up at her home to sell drugs.

In turn, the report said, the task force Sept. 25 used the informant to set up a $100 crack deal with Simons near her home, where officers set up surveillance.

The officers watched the defendant and a man leave the house and walk to and enter the informant's car on Fairview Avenue, investigators said.

The informant and the surveillance officers subsequently drove back to the Butler police station. According to authorities, the informant turned over the crack that he said Simons had given him in exchange for $100.

The evidence was eventually sent to the state police crime lab for testing. A lab report received June 14, documents said, showed it contained 0.87 grams of cocaine.

Simons' preliminary hearing is set for July 16.
