Office plans OK'd

II-VI could move headquarters

JACKSON TWP — The township planning commission has recommended the approval of plans to construct a commercial building on Zehner Road and Russell Road extension in Jackson Pointe.

The application will now go to the township supervisors for approval.

The plans call for the construction of a 12,500-square-foot structure that will be used for office space, as well as the storage and shipment of small technological devices.

If approved, the structure would serve as the headquarters for II-VI Inc., now based in Clinton Township, just outside Saxonburg.

Seventy-five people would be employed at the building, which will face Russell Road.

The application included extensive plans to plant trees and other greenery to minimize distraction or aesthetic issues on Russell or Zehner roads.

“We did have some concern about the appearance of a blank wall on Zehner Road,” said Chris Rearick, township supervisor. “But if you take a look at the landscaping plan you’ll see an additional mix of trees along there.”

The application also included a plan for a 12,300-square-foot extension that might happen within the next decade. But until that happens, the space will be kept as a lawn.

Truck traffic is not expected to increase significantly.
