2:21 a.m. Wednesday — A 41-year-old Butler man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a store and tried to steal a cell phone.Police found Paul J. Hilliard in the Nic It shop on South Chestnut Street after receiving a call on a suspected burglary.Hilliard allegedly broke in through a back window and tried to steal a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 cell phone, valued at $500, according to court documents.Hilliard surrendered to police shortly after being seen inside. He later admitted that he had been drinking, police said.He was arraigned on charges of burglary and criminal mischief, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $20,000 bail.Butler Township Police assisted at the scene.11:06 p.m. Tuesday — Corey R. Abbott, 41, was arrested on felony assault charges after he allegedly attacked a young woman at his home in the 400 block of First Street, leaving her with broken facial bones.Abbott is accused of punching 19-year-old Aslynn Brooks during a fight. Police said Abbott hit the teen “as hard as he could,” knocking her to the floor.Three other people at the house were on top of the suspect, holding him on the ground, when officers arrived.Brooks was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The hospital told police that the woman suffered orbital and nasal fractures, according to court documents.Abbott is charged with aggravated assault.

Wednesday — Emanuel E. Moore Jr., 32, of Farrell, Mercer County, was charged with drugged driving stemming from a March 13 crash in the Butler Commons parking lot. Moore wrecked after running over a curb in front of the Aldi's store.Moore is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, careless driving and disregarding traffic lanes.Wednesday — Police for the third time in two days charged Deborah J. Bush, 60, of Butler with shoplifting.Bush in the most recent case filed is accused of taking more than $200 in merchandise from David's Hallmark in Butler Commons on Feb. 24. She is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.Store surveillance video helped police identify the suspect.Police on Tuesday filed two other cases against Bush for allegedly shoplifting items from two different stores in the Butler Crossing shopping plaza.6:14 p.m. Tuesday — Kimberly A. Rihel, 37, of Chicora was caught allegedly shoplifting merchandise from the Walmart in Butler Commons. Police said they found her with drug contraband.Rihel is charged with misdemeanor counts of retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

5:38 p.m. Wednesday — An unidentified vehicle struck a sport utility vehicle on Winfield Road just east of Route 356 in Winfield Township and did not stop. Ronald A. Bowser, 50, of Worthington, Armstrong County, was driving the SUV.Anyone with information about the hit-and-run wreck is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.4 p.m. Wednesday — One person was hurt when a vehicle driven by Thayle E. McGinnis, 42, of Chicora rear-ended a car that was stopped for a school bus on Route 422 in Summit Township.The other driver, Janet I. Mitcheltree, 67, of Worthington was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. She was wearing a seat belt.Police said McGinnis was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.The Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.2:34 p.m. Wednesday — A minivan driven by Johanne L. Minetti, 43, of Slippery Rock and a car driven by Haley N. Cibak, 21, of North Huntingdon, Westmoreland County, collided at Route 108 and West Park Road in Worthington Township.Minetti was cited for making an improper left turn.7:55 p.m. Tuesday — Mary A. Campbell, 74, of Butler landed in trouble for smoking tobacco at the Country Town convenience store on Route 8 south in Butler Township. Police said they cited her for violating the state's Clean Indoor Act.

10:45 a.m. Wednesday — A burglar left empty-handed and beat a hasty retreat after a 35-year-old woman confronted him inside her home on Hollow Road in Washington Township, Armstrong County. The homeowner was alerted to the break-in when she heard breaking glass at the front windowThe suspect fled and drove away in a burgundy sedan. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-543-2011.

1:16 p.m. Saturday — Three vehicles were damages but no one was injured in a chain-reaction crash in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.The wreck happened when 75-year-old Victoria Francis, of New Castle fell asleep at the wheel on Route 422, causing her westbound car to cross the opposing lane and hit a guardrail and minivan.The collision spun the eastbound van driven by Robert J. Senko, 61, of New Castle into the westbound lane where it was struck by a pickup truck driven by James F. McDeavitt, 58, of Slippery Rock.Police said Francis was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.The Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
