11:45 a.m. Friday — Cars driven by Julie Welsh, 21, of Penn Township and Mary McCandless, 64, of Winfield Township collided on South Main Street.
Sunday — An unknown thief stole a purse from a car as the owner, Denna Wright of Slippery Rock, attended Christmas service at the Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock. The thief broke out a rear, side window to get into the vehicle. The theft occurred between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.11:55 p.m. Friday — Daniel Kevin Laidlaw, 32, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his pickup truck struck the rear of another pickup on Route 8 in Center Township.Police said Jamie Bodema, 33, of Butler had stopped his pickup after traveling upon a steel utility pole lying across the road. The pole had been knocked down in a previous crash. While Bodema's truck was stopped, it was rear-ended by Laidlaw's pickup. Bodema, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries.8 p.m. Friday — An unidentified sport utility-type vehicle struck an SUV on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township and did not stop following the crash. Sharon Volpe, 39, of Allison Park, Allegheny County, was driving the SUV.6:15 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Da Nitha Mignon Maddox, 36, of Dumfries, Va., crashed into the median on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township.10 a.m. Friday — An unknown white man in his 20s, wearing a red ball cap and driving a dark green Jeep Grand Cherokee stole mail from several mailboxes in the 100 and 200 blocks of Beulah Road and the 100 block of North Butler Church Road in Oakland Township.Anyone who may be missing mail should call Joseph Scherder, postmaster of the Butler Post Office, at 412-214-6000. Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call the barracks at 724-284-8100.9:40 a.m. Friday — Police are looking for a light blue, older model Chevrolet truck with damage to its left, front area. It was involved in a hit-and-run crash at Routes 19 and 488 in Portersville.A white man, 20 to 40 years old, with sandy curly hair was driving the truck that struck a car driven by Helen Stoyanoff of Ellwood City, Lawrence County.Friday — A 2002 Oldsmobile Alero was vandalized between 2 and 3:30 p.m. at the Clearview Mall parking lot in Center Township. The car, owned by James Nocera of Butler, sustained damaged to its front, left quarter panel. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the barracks.10:05 p.m. Thursday — A car driven by Brent McCoy, no age given, of Grove City and a tractor truck driven by Nicola Volpe, no age given, of Oswego, N.Y., collided on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township.2:19 a.m. Dec. 18 — Ronald Fleeger, 33, of Slippery Rock was arrested for driving under the influence on Route 8 near Mercer Road in Center Township.
Saturday — Police arrested one motorist for driving under the influence and issued two traffic citations during a DUI checkpoint detail on Route 68 in Madison Township, Clarion County.Assisting troopers in the checkpoint, held between 11:20 p.m. Friday and 12:40 a.m. Saturday were police from Rimersburg and East Brady.Officers stopped 57 vehicles and, in addition to the arrest and citations, issued eight written warnings. All motorists were given DUI pamphlets describing the impact of driving drunk on other motorists.
4:10 p.m. Tuesday — Alberta Boyd, 73, was cited for a hit-and-run crash at the County Market parking lot in Pine Township, Mercer County.Police said Boyd's car struck a sport utility vehicle and she did not stop after the crash. She was cited for accidents involving damage to an unattended vehicle. David Keating of Grove City owns the SUV.
