Scholarship established
BUTLER TWP — Four or five full-time students at Butler County Community College will be chosen next year for $500 renewable scholarships under a new endowment.
The Butler County Community College Education Foundation has established the Glenn R. and Rhea J. McCandless Logan Endowed Scholarship funded by a $50,000 gift from the Glenn and Rhea Logan Family Trust.
The recipients of the scholarships need to be enrolled in an occupational associate degree program. Qualified programs include: nursing, robotics, computer information systems, homeland security, emergency services, and other occupational programs.
These programs provide students with the education and skills needed to find a job at the completion of a two year associate degree.
Robert Heaton, Glenn Logan’s former business partner and the Logan Family Trust administrator, said the scholarship “focuses on occupational associate degree programs because the Butler community needs individuals who are well-prepared and ready to step into the local job market. Butler has positions these students can fill.”
BC3 President Nick Neupauer agreed.
“The Logan scholarship will recognize students who are completing a two year degree and are ready to meet the needs of Butler County’s businesses and industries. We are so excited that BC3 students will be the benefactors of the amazing generosity of the Logan Family Trust.”
Ruth Purcell, executive director of the foundation, thanked Logan trust administrators Heaton and attorney Tim Shaffer for choosing BC3 for the scholarship.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to award the Logan scholarship to BC3 students for many years to come,” she said.
The Logan scholarship will be awarded for the 2014-15 academic year. Students may complete the scholarship online application between May 1 and July 1.
