3 miles of water main to be replaced

Work to begin this summer

Pennsylvania American Water this summer will replace more than three miles of aging water main in Butler County.

The work, which also will increase the size of the lines, is being done to improve service reliability and increase water flow for firefighting.

The combined cost of these system improvements is about $3.1 million.

“The replacement of these aging mains, some of which date back to the 1940s, will improve reliability for our customers,” said Jake Gentile, Pennsylvania American operations superintendent.

“These projects also will improve water pressure and flows for fire protection.”

In Butler, lines will be replaced on Hansen Avenue, Route 8 and North Bluff Street beginning in late May.

In Saxonburg, work will be done on South Rebecca Street and West Water Street starting in June or July.

The company expects to complete pipe installation, service connection tie-ins and final paving restoration by late summer.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure.
