Eagle recipients honored

Nick Neupauer

FRANKLIN TWP — Eagle Scouts from Butler, Lawrence and Armstrong counties were honored Thursday at the Moraine Trails Council Eagle Scout dinner.

Nick Neupauer, president of Butler County Community College, addressed about 120 people who included scouts, their parents and sponsors at the Atrium.

The 2011 class has 73 young men who earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Nationally fewer than four out of 100 Scouts attain that honor. Each Eagle Scout received a medallion commissioned by the Moraine Trails Council to recognize their achievement and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of scouting.

Neupauer said while he had been a Cub Scout and had not gone on to Boy Scouts, he still has his third place ribbon and car from a Pinewood Derby.

Neupauer told how having caring people to mentor you can impact the direction of your life. He challenged the Eagle recipients to thank all those scout leaders, friends and family members who helped them obtain their Eagle.

This year’s recipient of the Andy Korim Eagle Scout Scholarship is Michal Domaradzki of Troop 33, sponsored by the Presbyterian Church of Prospect. The $1,200 scholarship is to help the scout further his education.

On Saturday, BC3 hosted a Technology Merit Badge Academy to introduce 150 scouts to a diverse series of merit badges including aviation, chemistry, drafting, electricity, electronics, engineering, nuclear science, and robotics.
