Friel fans 15 in win
Josh Friel struck out 15 and was in the middle of the game-winning rally in the fifth inning Thursday as Butler City defeated Cranberry, 5-3, in American Legion baseball play at Pullman Park.
Butler City (3-7) fell behind 3-0 in the second inning as Cranberry’s Ryan O’Connor hit a two-run triple and eventually scored himself.
Nate Carben’s two-run single and a RBI single by Travis Thompson knotted the game in the fourth. Chris Petit singled and scored the winning run on a Friel double.
Friel crossed the plate on Dylan Meeder’s single to close out the scoring. Meeder had two singles in the game.
O’Connor struck out seven in taking the loss for Cranberry.
Butler City faces Center Township at 6 p.m. Saturday at Highfield.
