SLIPPERY ROCK — On paper, this looks like a colossal mismatch.

But this game between undefeated Grove City High and winless Slippery Rock won't be played on paper, it'll be played on Slippery Rock's home field on Senior Night at 7 p.m. Friday.

To Eagles coach Jeff Bell, that means anything goes.

"The records don't matter," Bell said.

It isn't just coachspeak. With his team coming off two emotional wins over state-ranked teams in Wilmington and Oil City, Bell is wary of a Rockets team playing with nothing to lose.

Should Grove City roll over their rivals in the first meeting between the schools since 2007, the perception will be that was supposed to happen. Should the Eagles stumble and lose, though ...

"It could make (Slippery Rock's) season," Bell said. "They know that. They've been able to play with very good teams for a half. They have very talented players. Things just haven't gone their way."

Bell and his Eagles are aiming to make sure things still don't go Slippery Rock's way this season.

Grove City has stormed through the first seven games with a balanced offense and a stifling defense that has surrendered a mere 75 yards rushing and 125 yards passing per game.

On the other hand, Slippery Rock has surrendered more than 3,000 yards of offense to its seven opponents in 2010.

"We're still searching for our first win, but I don't know how many other 0-7 teams have played with some of the teams we have played," said Slippery Rock coach Brendan Hathaway. "We just haven't been able to put four quarters together."

While the Rockets' defense has struggled, the offense often has played well, particularly the passing combination of quarterback Ryan Currie and receiver Sam Furrh.

Furrh has caught 13 passes for 354 yards and three touchdowns.

Grove City is just trying to stay the course, Bell said.

"The big thing right now is we need to stay healthy," Bell said. "We need to keep playing the way we're playing. If we do those things, who knows where we could end up?"

Mars (6-1) at Valley (0-7) 7:30 p.m., Friday
