PennDOT postpones lane closures on I-79

CRANBERRY TWP — Planned delays on Interstate 79 southbound passing over North Boundary Road have been delayed.

PennDOT announced last week that road crews were to begin opening the southbound overpass Wednesday. Due to the weather, however, PennDOT said the work has been delayed until Monday.

Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, road crews will close individual lanes between mile markers 81.4 and 80.5 to divert traffic from the temporary bridge constructed between lanes of travel to the permanent roadway crossing over North Boundary Road.

That bridge is the first of two to be constructed on that part of I-79, with the other being a new bridge spanning the township road on the northbound side of the interstate. PennDOT expects the second bridge construction to begin in the spring. The cost of the two bridges is $14.6 million.
