Mars to seek bids on new sports field and new turf at the stadium

ADAMS TWP — Many athletes in the Mars School District over the next two years could find themselves playing on a new field.

The school board Tuesday night voted to seek bids to demolish all structures at the district property at the corner of Three Degree Road and Doc’s Way and build a new multisport, artificial turf field.

The vote also included advertising for bids to replace the aging turf at the Mars Athletic Complex.

Superintendent Wesley Shipley said the new field along Three Degree Road would be for soccer, lacrosse and football.

He said before demolishing the large house on the property, the district will salvage and sell valuable items such as chandeliers, copper pipe, and mantels from the house to recoup some of the cost for the project.

Shipley could not provide an estimate for the cost of demolition and building the new field. He hopes the new field will be ready by next summer.
