TIME CAPSULE
THIS WON'T HURT A BIT - Bruce Beichner, 5, is being held by his mother, Mrs. Robert Beichner, while Mrs. Robert Stock administers a rubella immunization. The vaccination brought tears to Bruce's eyes, and sympathy was shared by his 8-year-old sister, Diane, right, as she covered her mouth. This photo, taken May 17, 1970, captured part of "Rub out Rubella" a campaign sponsored by The Medical Society and Pennsylvania State Education Association. The vaccination was available at six area schools and was free to children ages 1 to 10. The turnout for this day doubled Butler County's record in 1967 for a nine-day measles inoculation. More than 10,000 children were vaccinated on that day, and 275 physicians, teachers and nurses volunteered. "Rub out Rubella" is no longer in existence in Butler County. The PSEAno longer takes part in this activity because they don't have proper funds for it. The Medical Society no longer provides this service because they have shifted gears to advocate for patents at the federal level.
