5:44 a.m. Friday — Jonathan R. Shuler, 25, of Butler was hurt when the car he was driving crashed into the back of a garbage truck on South Main Street near West Diamond Street. Shuler, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries.According to a police report, Shuler was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and later to Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.The truck, driven by Michael J. Brozenick, 23, of Middlesex Township, was idling and its flashing lights were on at the time of the crash.
2:23 a.m. Thursday — Scott Persson, 24, of West Chester, Chester County, was arrested for driving under the influence at Liberty Street and Kocher Drive. Police also cited Persson for careless driving, failing to use turn signals and failing to keep right.
6:20 p.m. Sunday — Daniel Metheney, 29, of Butler allegedly assaulted his wife, 26-year-old Malinda Metheney, during a domestic dispute at a home on Main Street in West Sunbury. Police said Daniel Metheney is charged with simple assault.Saturday — An unknown vandal damaged a Moskito scooter at The Heights Apartments on Stillwater Lane in Slippery Rock Township. Damage was estimated at $300. The vandalism happened between 12:01 and 10 a.m.Wednesday — A mini bike was stolen from a garage in a burglary at an Oak Street home in Karns City. The bike is valued at $600.Wednesday — An unknown thief stole scrap metal from a home on Seven Fields Road in Oakland Township. The stolen property, described as steel I-beams that the owner was using as his mobile home's support structure, were taken between 2 and 4 p.m.Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.4:10 p.m. Aug. 23 — Mark D. Undercuffler, 35, and Jodie L. Undercuffler, 36, both of Cabot, were hurt in a three-vehicle, chain-reaction accident on Bonniebrook Road, just north of Collins Lane in Summit Township.The wreck happened when a car driven by Benjamin D. Bliss, 23, of Rural Ridge, Allegheny County, rear-ended the car that Mark D. Undercuffler was driving. The collision forced the Undercufflers' car into the back of a minivan driven by Licia M. Cogley, 57, of Beaver Falls, Beaver County.Both Undercufflers were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. He was wearing a seat belt; she was not. Police said Bliss was cited for careless driving.4:53 p.m. Aug. 21 — A vehicle driven by Melissa M. Taylor, 22, of Zelienople ran over a mailbox on Eagle Mill Road in Connoquenessing Township. Police said Taylor was cited for a lane violation.Aug. 11 — Nothing was reported taken in a burglary between 9 and 11:20 a.m. at a home on Glenford Drive in Fairview Township.
8 p.m. Monday — A man and girl were badly injured when the motorcycle they were riding hit a deer on Reedsdale Road in Washington Township, Armstrong County.Jarrod J. Barlett, 42, of Ford City, the driver, tried to avoid the deer but ended up laying the motorcycle down. The cycle skidded about 100 feet.Barlett was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. His passenger, Leah C. Barlett, 12, of Ford City was taken by ambulance to ACMH Hospital near Kittanning. Both suffered moderate injuries.The Washington Township, East Franklin Township and Applewood volunteer fire departments, and Kittanning 6 EMS assisted police at the scene.11:05 a.m. Friday — Michael R. Johns, 53, of Templeton was arrested after he allegedly threatened to shoot his wife during an argument at a Houser Road home in Boggs Township.Johns later got combative with troopers called to the home. Police said they found him with an unspecified weapon and suspected marijuana.The suspect was arraigned on two counts of terroristic threats and charges of resisting arrest, simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Armstrong County Jail on $30,000 bail, following arraignment.
Sunday — A Wisconsin man landed in jail after a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township netted police with a bag of suspected marijuana, two loaded pistols and about $2,500 in currency.The suspect, Axle A. Kolodzne, 23, of Ixonia is charged with carrying a gun without a permit, possession of a controlled substance and driving under the influence. He was arraigned on charges and placed in the Mercer County Jail.6:10 p.m. Friday — A Grove City teenager was blamed for causing a three-vehicle wreck that injured five people in Springfield Township.The 17-year-old girl, who police did not identify, either ran a stop sign or failed to yield the right of way at Route 19 and Leesburg Station Road, and hit a car driven by Maria L. Graham, 45, of Avella, Washington County.Moments later, another car driven by Samuel G. Zingaro, 80, of New Castle, struck Graham's vehicle that was still spinning from the initial collision. The girl's SUV, meanwhile, ended up slamming into a guardrail.The girl was taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. Graham and her three passengers also suffered minor injuries that did not require hospital treatment. All those injured were wearing seat belts.Aug. 27 — A 1953 Ford Jubilee tractor and brush hog were stolen from a home on Brent Road in Liberty Township. The theft happened Aug. 26 or 27.Aug. 25 — Someone stole a Reese trailer hitch and sway bar from a vehicle in the 1500 block of Harrisville Road in Worth Township. The theft occurred between Aug. 23 and 25.Aug. 20 — Police filed several charges against Dakota J. Emery, 18, of Liberty Township, stemming from a vehicle chase Aug. 5 in Springfield Township.Emery was driving a motorcycle when he made his would-be getaway through woods, yards and a cemetery in the areas of Routes 208 and 258, and Old Ash Road. He was eventually stopped and arrested.Emery is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving without a license, driving at an unsafe speed, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without inspection and careless driving.
