SRU baseball remains alive in playoff hunt
SLIPPERY ROCK — Luke Trueman and Christian Seelhorst provided quality starts on the mound and the Slippery Rock University baseball team stayed alive in the PSAC West playoff hunt with a doubleheader sweep of Indiana (Pa.) Friday at Critchfield Park.
The Rock (21-14, 12-12) won by scores of 4-1 and 5-1.
Seton Hill and Gannon have clinched playoff spots in the PSAC Tournament, leaving Mercyhurst (15-10), California (14-12), SRU and Pitt-Johnstown (12-13) to battle for the final two PSAC West berths.
SRU has four games remaining while the other three have two games left. The Rock might have to sweep all four games to secure a playoff spot.
Trueman struck out seven in seven innings in Game 1, scattering six hits. Quentin Brown had two hits, including a grand slam in the third inning to provide The Rock’s offense.
Seelhorst walked six in the second game, but allowed only one hit in 4 1/3 innings pitched. Travis Holman did not allow a hit the rest of the way in getting the save.
Connor Hamilton had two hits and three RBI in Game 2 while Abraham Mow contributed a pair of hits.
Prior to Friday’s games, The Rock’s baseball senior class of Kyle Bowser, Corey Burkes, Vince Donato, Joseph Dombrowski and Andrew Shivak were honored.
SRU travels to IUP Saturday for a 1 p.m. twinbill.
