Welcome to the wide-open Greater Allegheny Conference.

Victories last week by previously winless Knoch and Indiana over Hampton and Highlands, respectively, leave four of the six teams in the conference with 1-1 league records.

The Knights (1-5, 1-1) play at Indiana (1-5, 1-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

"It's going to come down to the final week before anyone knows who's in and who's out," Indiana coach Mark Zilinskas said of the playoffs. "That's the way it is every year in this league.

"We've had some close games with Knoch. This one shouldn't be any different."

The teams have split their last six meetings, with Indiana winning the last two by scores of 34-20 and 28-27.

"They run that option so well and we have to be able to step up and stop it," Knoch coach Mike King said. "They've put a lot of points up on the board."

Indians quarterback Kyle Edgar threw for a school-record 251 yards in a 21-7 win over Highlands. Vinnie Gatti had four catches for 133 yards while Nathan Solarz had five receptions for 119. Both scored on long touchdown plays.

"We did a good job of taking what the defense gave us," Zilinskas said. "We showed we can throw the ball if it's there.

"We don't have any running back with a lot of yards. We use four guys in the backfield and the production is spread out," he added.

Knoch downed Hampton 10-7 last week despite not having leading rusher Andrew Rumburg-Goodlin, who missed the game with a bruised thigh or possible muscle tear. He is questionable this week.

"We're still not sure what's going on there physically," King said of Rumburg-Goodlin. "But Adam Tuzikow's been a force at fullback and senior John DeWalt had been patiently waiting in the wings. He got his chance last week and made the most of it."

King lauded the play of linebackers Chet Paul and Jake McTighe, along with defensive tackle Tom Kloes in the Hampton game.

Slippery Rock (2-4) at Meadville (2-4) 7 p.m., TodayMeadville is a grind-it-out running team. ... The Bulldogs are led by running back Tyler Banks, who has rushed for 512 yards this season. ... The Bulldogs have four running backs with more than 120 yards. ... Quarterback Jarrod Kilburn has completed 21-of-53 passes for 256 yards and one touchdowns. He also has thrown four interceptions. ... Meadville ended a three-game losing streak with a 35-14 win over Erie Central Tech. ... The Rockets shut out Reynolds 31-0 two weeks ago and Titusville 20-0 last week. ... Slippery Rock cornerback Ryan Gordon has six interceptions, including four in the last two games. ... Rockets QB Ayron Gallagher and fullback Justin Angerett have similar rushing stats. Gallagher leads the team with 455 yards on 73 carries while Angerett has gained 435 yards on 75 carries. ... Freshman linebacker Dylan Neal was a force for the Rockets last week with a dozen tackles.

Mars (4-2, 2-0) at Hampton (3-3, 1-1) 7:30 p.m., FridayMars defeated Franklin Regional 14-0 while Hampton lost to Knoch 10-7. ... Austin Miele rushed for 229 yards and two scores for the Planets and is just 11 yards shy of 1,000 for the season. ... The Planets also are receiving strong play from the running game's supporting cast, as Seth Geyer, Randy Seebacher and Kevin Randolph have combined to rush 81 times for 474 yards and four touchdowns. ... Hampton uses three running backs in Nate Winek, Andrew Bly and Steven Magister, who have combined to tally 705 yards and five scores.

Moniteau (3-3, 3-3) at Brookville (3-3, 3-2), 7 p.m., FridayThe Warriors defeated Brookville twice last year: 42-7 in the regular season and 55-7 in the playoffs. ... Moniteau RB James Shope remains on pace for a third consecutive 1,000-yard season. He has 94 carries for 724 yards and 11 TDs. ... Sophomore QB Kyle Armagost threw for 251 yards in last week's 27-24 overtime loss at Keystone. He has 635 yards and six TDs passing. ... Brookville has shut out its last two opponents, Clarion-Limestone and A-C Valley. ... Junior linebacker Jared Heschke is second in District 9 in tackles, averaging 16 per game. ... Through five games, senior RB Ethan Harmon had 336 yards rushing and seven TDs while senior Kyle Galbraith had 307 yards on the ground.

West Shamokin (0-6, 0-6) at Freeport (5-1, 5-1) 7:30 p.m., FridayThe Wolves have fallen on hard times, having been outscored 287-3 after a 37-0 blanking by Summit Academy last week. ... The Yellowjackets posted a 41-0 decision over Valley to remain in a three-way tie for first place in the Allegheny Conference. ... Alex Isenberg rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two more, one apiece to Darius Frantz and Tyler Collins. Andy Teorsky rushed for Freeport's other touchdown. ... Freeport's final three regular-season opponents sport a 3-15 record.

Union (1-5, 1-5) at A-C Valley (0-6, 0-6) 7 p.m., FridayThe Golden Knights fell to Clarion 52-14 last Friday, their scores coming on a pair of Trent Corle touchdown passes, one to Taylor Smith and one to Zach Traister. Corle was 8-of-17 passing for 125 yards. He also led the team with 37 yards rushing on three carries. Traister pulled in four passes for 80 yards. ... The Falcons dropped their 37th consecutive game last Friday, a 42-0 decision against Brookville. Mike Orrvick completed 6-of-14 passes for 81 yards, with four for 64 yards going to Justin Loll.

Corry (5-1, 2-0) at Grove City (3-3, 1-0) 7 p.m., FridayAfter scoring 63 points against Franklin three weeks ago, Grove City has scored a total of 10 in losses the last two weeks. ... Despite scoring only three points in a 14-3 loss to Hickory last week, Grove City rolled up 223 rushing yards. ... Jamarr Patterson leads the Eagles with 347 yards rushing and five touchdowns. ... Linebacker Nick Reddick, who had 11 tackles against Hickory, leads Grove City with 47 tackles. ... The Eagles will have to deal with Corry's Scottie Frisina, one of the best quarterbacks in District 10, who has thrown for 1,206 yards, rushed for 390 yards and accounted for 24 touchdowns (16 passing, eight rushing). ... Frisina has plenty of targets, as four Corry receivers have caught more than 10 passes. ... The Beavers' defense has recorded 18 sacks. ... Corry's only loss was a 41-18 setback to Erie Stong Vincent last week.

Quarterback Geoff Landry was held to 6-of-20 passing for 34 yards. He entered the game with 52-of-95 passes for 718 yards and seven touchdowns. His top target is Zac Capan, who caught 17 passes over the first five weeks for 206 yards and three scores. ... The Knights picked up their first victory of the season in a 37-0 pasting of West Shamokin, as Maurice Houston rushed for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass from Doug House.
