Police investigate 3-car crash

JEFFERSON TWP — State police identified two people who were injured Friday night in a suspected drunken driving crash on Dinnerbell Road.

Ethan R. Boyd, 28, of Worthington, Armstrong County, and Jeffrey A. Vasbinder, 44, of Butler, two drivers in the three-vehicle wreck, were both taken to hospitals with injuries.

Police said they believe Boyd was driving under the influence about 10:20 p.m. when his 2002 Chevrolet Blazer traveling east on Dinnerbell Road crossed the double yellow line.

The Blazer sideswiped the driver’s side mirror of a car driven by Matthew T. Jaworski, 18, of Renfrew. Jaworski was not hurt.

The sport utility vehicle continued eastbound and again crossed the double line just before Golden City Road, slamming into the front driver side fender of Vasbinder’s 2002 Chevrolet Silverado.

The SUV rolled onto its passenger side following the collision, trapping Boyd inside. Saxonburg volunteer firefighters had to cut open the vehicle to rescue him.

He was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Chief Chris Ballina of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company said it appeared Boyd suffered a broken leg.

Saxonburg Ambulance took Vasbinder and an unidentified passenger in his pickup to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police said they continue to investigate the crash but no charges were immediately filed.

Butler County Court records show that a preliminary hearing for Boyd is set for Sept. 16 stemming from a DUI arrest in July.
