Butler Police4 a.m. Tuesday — Jonathan A. Mazar, 36, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, Sunny Cousins, during a domestic dispute at his home in the 300 block of Franklin Street. He is accused of grabbing Cousins by the hair and dragging her across the floor.Cousins was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for injuries including bruises to her forehead, left hand and lower back.Mazar was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.Tuesday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Timothy A. Houtz, 30, of Butler stemming from an incident with an ex-girlfriend Oct. 31 at her home on Sumner Avenue. Houtz is accused of sending the victim threatening text messages. In at least one of the texts, according to court documents, he threatened to kill her.Later that night, a 911 call sent emergency crews to the victim’s home. The caller reported a woman there had fallen down a flight of steps. But when the Butler Fire Department and Butler Ambulance Service arrived, they learned the call was a false alarm.The call was eventually traced to Houtz, documents said. He is charged with terroristic threats and making a false alarm to a public safety agency.Saturday — A Venango County couple attending the city’s Spirit of Christmas Parade returned to their sport utility vehicle at Cedar and Howard streets to find it had been broken into and a purse stolen. The unknown thief smashed a front passenger side window to get into the vehicle between 4:30 and 7 p.m.The large, white purse had no money in it but contained the 39-year-old woman’s credit cards, bank debit card, driver’s license and Social Security card.

Butler Twp Police12:29 a.m. Tuesday — Lindsay N. Maples, 27, of Slippery Rock allegedly stole money from a home in the 300 block of Young Avenue. Maples is charged with misdemeanor theft.Tuesday — Police charged an employee at the Walmart at Butler Commons with stealing money and merchandise while working at the store between August and October.The suspect, Patricia Eckels, 72, of Slippery Rock, is accused of taking $1,065 from a cash register. She also allegedly stole 77 items valued at a combined $247.16.She is charged with first-degree misdemeanor counts of theft, receiving stolen property and retail theft.
