Gremlins too much for Lions

Steve Black scored 17 points and teammate Mike Senepole added 11 points and 11 rebounds as Karns City clobbered Clarion-Limestone, 63-30 in boys basketball Thursday night.

Mark Ferguson contributed to the victory by recording seven points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Charlie Zaludek scored 12 points for the Gremlins (5-7, 4-1).

The Slippery Rock girls swimming team's quartet of Calley Bridges, Bethany Johnston, Vicky Kosiorek and Lauren Tibbens shattered its own school record in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 4 minutes, 15.07 seconds Wednesday in a meet with rival Grove City.The mark was 5½ seconds better than the group's previous standard and helped the Rockets defeat the Eagles, 92-77.Johnston, Kosiorek and Tibbens teamed with Britley Raabe to set a new school record in the 200 medley with a finish of 2:10.2.Also setting new school marks were Kosiorek in the 100 butterfly (1:10.46) and Johnston in the 200 individual medley (2:22.64) and 500 freestyle (5:39.09).In the boys competition, Slippery Rock's Jacob Johnston set a school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.35, but Grove City defeated the Rockets, 70-50.

Butler's junior high wrestling team improved to 4-1 Wednesday with a 94-0 shutout of North Allegheny Gold.The Golden Tornado received pins from Mike Crawford at 100 pounds, Ken Koss at 115, Alex Miranda at 122, Trevor Green at 138, Zach Hinchberger at 165, Danny Steele at 185 and B.J. Hyatt at 210.Butler competes at North Hills Wednesday.
