SLIPPERY ROCK — Country star John Michael Montgomery will grace the inaugural Country Music Show sponsored by Butler County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 107.
Two concerts are planned, one at 1 p.m. and one at 6 p.m., Nov. 4 at the Slippery Rock University Field House.
Since the days when “Life’s a Dance” turned him from an unknown into a nationally recognized recording artist, Montgomery has been lending his baritone voice to love songs like “I Swear,” “I Love the Way You Love Me” and “I Can Love You Like That.”
The 2004 hit “Letters from Home,” is a tribute to the connection between soldiers and their families.
Some of Montgomery’s songs turn whimsical like “Be My Baby Tonight” and “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident).”
His most recent album, “Time Flies,” was released in 2008, with its emotional centerpiece, “All in a Day.” The album was his first on his own record label, Stringtown Records of Nashville, named for a town near his Kentucky home.
“I’ll continue making records for myself,” he said in a press release, “but I’d love to find other artists to produce, hoping I can open some doors and make some dreams come true like mine did. I love finding hit records and producing them, and I see that down the road for myself.
Montgomery himself has sold 16 million albums and had 15 number one singles. He has four Academy of Country Music Awards, three Country Music Association Awards and an American Music Award.
He has been named American Songwriter Magazine’s Artist of the Year and Billboard’s Top County Artist and Top Male Artist, and garnered two Grammy nominations.
Montgomery continues to make new music, and he has plans to release a new project with a record label partner in Nashville.
Montgomery last appeared in Butler County for the Freedom Fest Concert at the Big Butler Fair in 2005.
For next month’s concert, the band North of Mason-Dixon, or NOMAD, will open for Montgomery. The group from Pittsburgh has albums that include “City Girl/Country Girl” and “American Boy.”
Admission is by $22.50 donation in advance, and paid admissions can be held at the box office. For tickets, call 724-282-9119. Tickets at the door will be $25.
