Ex-worker charged with stealing $2,800 from store
A former cashier at Rollies Tobacco on West Cunningham Street is facing retail theft charges after she allegedly manipulated the store’s inventory system to steal money from the cash register.
Megan A. Miller, 30, on Tuesday was charged with felony retail theft for allegedly stealing nearly $2,800 from the store last month.
Owner Cheri McWilliams-Pollock told city police that Miller took numerous steps to steal money during customer transactions.
Miller allegedly would take money from customers and then delete the transaction from the register’s history.
McWilliams-Pollock told police she believes that Miller would go into the storage room and turn off the digital recorder for the surveillance cameras before putting the money into a bag.
Miller also would allegedly finish the theft by logging into the store’s inventory system to delete the items that were sold.
While Miller turned the digital recorder off, McWilliams-Pollock told police the cameras were still recorded through a cloud service.
Miller denied the allegations when questioned by police on Tuesday, adding that she was asked by Pollock to remove items from inventory.
Miller has two prior convictions for retail thefts.
