BTA will offer free commutes next week
The Butler Transit Authority is offering county residents free rides on the commuter bus to Pittsburgh on “Try Transit Free Days” on Dec. 4 and 5.
The commuter service, Routes 3, 4 and 5, departs from the former Kmart in Pullman Park, travels Route 68 to Route 528 and makes stops at park and rides in Evans City and the Route 528/I-79 park and ride. The bus then goes directly to the T-station on the North Shore using high occupancy vehicle lanes. From there, passengers can ride the T for free to destinations in downtown Pittsburgh. Authority staff will be aboard the bus to answer questions from passengers. Staff will help passengers determine which T stop is closest to their workplace destination and the six stops it makes in a free fare zone in Pittsburgh.
For its commuter service, the authority uses 45-foot coach buses equipped with free WiFi and charging ports. The authority offers a bus tracking app as well as a mobile ticketing app for convenience. Free park and rides are available at Pullman Square, EDCO Park in Evans City and the Route 528/I-79 park and ride. Normally, bus fares start at $3.87 per trip based on the purchase of a 31-trip pass. The authority asks that passengers intending to try the free bus rides register by emailing their name and email address or phone number to info@butlertransit.com. Registration is not required, but it is preferred.
