Marie McCandless
Marie Barlow McCandless, 96, of Outlook Pointe in Saxonburg went home to be with the Lord on Sunday.
Born in Murphysboro, Ill., she was the daughter of Herman and Lula Imhoff.
She spent most of her life in Butler as the owner and operator of the Nixon Beauty Shop, retiring at the age of 75.
She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, Maqueda Chapter 421 Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine Good Samaritan No. 32. She was a self-taught silver life master in bridge, teaching and winning tournaments during her life.
She is survived by her husband, Lamont McCandless, whom she married Nov. 19, 1983; a daughter Dixie Lou Barlow-Whitaker and her husband, Robert Whitaker, of Akron, Ohio; a son, Jerald Barlow and his wife, Lois, of Meadville; seven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Also surviving are stepchildren: Barbara, Judy, Jacquelyn and Patricia Jo McCandless, all of California; Mary Burchner and Karen and David McCandless of Houston, Texas, Gretchen Amado of Pittsburgh, and Lynn Lukavich of West Sunbury; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Barlow; a sister; two brothers; a granddaughter, Dana Marie Whitaker; and step children Kenny McCandless, Ellie McCandless-Diel and Michael Lukavich.
McCANDLESS - Friends of Marie Barlow McCandless, who died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Samuel Blair, chaplain at the Hospice of Greater Butler, officiating. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Greater Butler, the American Cancer Society, or a favorite charity.
