Win caps season for Page

Rhino Page ended the Professional Bowlers Tour regular season with a victory in the PBA Experience Showdown.

Page, who pocketed $25,000 for the win, topped five other bowlers in a format requiring the competitors to bowl two frames on five lanes, each dressed with a different PBA lane condition.

The PBA heads to Japan this week for the 25th annual DYDO Japan Cup. Patrick Allen is the defending champion.

Trivia questionWhich Butler bowler once competed against legends Dick Weber and John Petraglia in the ABC Masters tournament? Answer at the end of the column.

Blast From the PastIt was 1970, and the Butler County Bowling Association handed out trophies for the scratch champions of the BCBA handicap tournament held at Meridian Lanes. Capturing the singles title was Adam Yelito, while Jim McKinney and Rollie Hortert won the doubles event. The Puntereri team of Steve Kosar, Phil Crouse, Al DeMatt, Joe Rosenberg and Rocco Iannotti won the team event, with Iannotti taking all-events honors.

Tip of the WeekThe season is winding down and I wanted to share with you what the City Tenpin League is doing in the final two weeks. After crowning a regular season champion, the league then started a two-week, total-pins format to determine a "playoff" champion. All eight teams start back at even and the team with the most total pins after two weeks wins. I bowl in the league and I think it's a great idea to keep interest up late in the season.
