Butler teen headed to trial

He faces drug trafficking charges

A Butler teenager is headed for trial on drug trafficking charges.

Alonzo J. Fleischer, 19, on Monday waived his preliminary hearings in two unrelated criminal cases.

Fleischer has been in the Butler County Prison since Oct. 17 when Butler police arrested him in connection with a drug investigation that began this year.

A witness told police on June 18 that he had seen a young man, later identified as Fleischer, selling drugs in the city, according to court documents. Officers soon spotted Fleischer on North Chestnut Street.

He took off running and police chased after him in their patrol car. During the chase, police had to drive onto a curb around a pickup truck that was blocking the road.

But the maneuver ended up bending the driver’s side tire, costing the city more than $250 to fix, documents said.

Officers continued the pursuit and noticed the suspect throw something away in back of a home in the 300 block of North Bluff Street.

A search of that area turned up four stamp bags of heroin, documents said. Police also seized a cell phone that was in Fleischer’s pocket.

He was eventually released, and police later got a search warrant for his phone.

Police on Oct. 13 received the forensic examination report for the phone, which showed several text messages indicating purported drug sales, documents said.

Fleischer was arraigned Oct. 17 on felony charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility.

He also is charged with misdemeanor drug possession and a summary charge of criminal mischief for the damage to the police car.

He was placed in the county prison on $75,000 bail following arraignment.

Meanwhile, the Butler Count Drug Task Force in a separate investigation charged Fleischer last week with selling three bags of heroin to a police informant July 28. He is accused of using his cell phone to set up the drug deal.

He was arraigned Oct. 27 on felony charges of delivery and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance as well as criminal use of a communication facility, and misdemeanor drug possession charges.

Fleischer was returned to the county prison but not before his bail was doubled to $150,000.
