Police surveillance leads to drug arrest of Butler man
A Butler man was nabbed with suspected crack cocaine during a weekend arrest that followed complaints of drug activity at his apartment on the 300 block of North Main Street.
Officers working for the Butler County Drug Task Force about 6:45 p.m. Friday arrested 29-year-old Jacob U. Vandevort-Renforth.
He admitted that he was on his way to make a delivery of crack when officers stopped Vandevort-Renforth on the 200 block of North McKean Street, said county Detective Tim Fennell, who heads the task force.
Vandevort-Renforth was arraigned on felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges, and placed in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.
Fennell said the task force in September began receiving reports of “heavy drug activity” at Vandevort-Renforth's apartment.
Officers subsequently set up surveillance there and saw the defendant run out of the home Friday evening. He had both hands in the front pockets of his hooded sweat shirt when he was caught, according to court documents.
He was eventually searched, Fennell said, and found with a plastic bag containing 1.93 grams of crack in one of his pockets.
“Vandevort-Renforth stated that he was taking it to a nearby alley,” documents said, “to sell it to a male name 'Tim.'”
