Michael J. Morgus

Michael J. Morgus, 90, of Butler died Monday evening at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in McKees Rocks, Oct. 24, 1914, he was a son of Nicholas and Josephine Morgus.

In 1977, he retired from the Montgomery Ward store in Butler, where he had been the carpet manager when the store was on Main Street and also when it was at the former Butler Mall. Prior to that, he had owned and operated Painters Restaurant that had been on West Jefferson Street.

He was a life member and the longest active member of the Butler Elks Lodge 170. He enjoyed sports, especially football at every level from youth midget leagues, Butler High School athletics to the college and professional level.

He loved to spend time daily visiting his friends at Clearview Mall and enjoyed playing the lottery.

He was a former Eucharistic Minister and member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.

Surviving are a son, Michael P. Morgus of Butler; a daughter, Mrs. Patrick (Kathryn) Coyle of Meridian; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, John Morgus of Johnson City, N.Y.; a sister, Ann Prebula of Butler; numerous nieces and nephews.

His wife, Catherine Rattigan Morgus, whom he married June 24, 1940, died March 1, 1991. He also was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave. The Rev. James Dolan will officiate.
