Pa. Historical & Museum Commission calls for marker nominations
June 1 is the final date to nominate historic properties, persons and events of state or national significance for the Pennsylvania Historical Marker Program in 2022.
A news release from the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission said since 1914 commission’s historical markers have chronicled more than 2,500 people, places and events that have affected the lives of Pennsylvanians over the centuries. The markers feature subjects including Native Americans and settlers, government, politics, athletes, entertainers, artists, struggles for freedom and equality, and businesses.
The news release said nominations have to be submitted electronically through the commission’s web-based application. Nominators must create a Keystone account to submit a marker nomination.
Nominations are reviewed by a panel of independent historical experts from across the state. The panel recommendations are then presented to commissioners for review and a formal vote to approve, reject or modify the panel recommendations at a meeting that will take place Sept. 7.
