Sprankle’s Campout for Community informs public, raises funds

The third annual Campout for Community will again be held at the Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market in Leechburg, Armstrong County, but Butler County shoppers can still get involved locally.

Doug Sprankle, owner of the market in Saxonburg, explained that county officials and other local leaders are invited to the Leechburg store on Friday to sit around a faux campfire and talk about their goals and the good things going on in Butler County.

The 16-hour event will be livestreamed on Facebook, and guests will be interviewed both in-person and virtually, Sprankle said.

During the Campout for Community, 10% of all sales at the Saxonburg store will be donated to the Saxonburg Salvation Army service unit.

In addition, Sprankle said Miele Enterprises, which provided the six electronic games of chance in the Saxonburg store’s “Boiler Room,” will match the Sprankle’s donation up to $10,000.

Donation kettles also will be available at the Saxonburg store.

Officials to be interviewed by the Sprankle family during Campout for Community on Friday include Leslie Osche, Butler County commissioners chairwoman; Chuck Lewis, president of Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company; and Karen and Marlin Boltz, of the Saxonburg Salvation Army service unit, among others.

Sprankle hopes many shoppers fill their grocery orders and drop donations into the kettle Friday.

“Supporting the store helps us get to the $10,000, which in turn helps create donation options,” Sprankle said, referring to the Miele Enterprises match.

He also looks forward to talking with county and local officials during Campout for Community.

“It’s great to give the people who work so hard for our communities the mic,” Sprankle said. “By supporting them, you’re supporting what they do for our community.”
