Mildred V. "Toot" Crawford, 86, of Butler died Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 24, 1923, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late James and Bernice Williams Mentzer.

She worked as a library assistant at the Butler Public Library for over 20 years until her retirement in 2000. Before that, she owned and operated Becker's Gift Shop on Main Street for 10 years, and as a young lady she worked at the Spaide Shirt Factory.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler and taught Sunday School at St. Paul for 20 years.

She greatly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed bingo, cards, going to casinos, and baby-sitting her grandchildren.

Her husband, Elmer D. "Mutt" Crawford, preceded her in death on March 9, 1970.

Surviving are three sons, Robert D. Crawford, Thomas P. Crawford and his wife, Julie Crawford, and Roger E. Crawford, all of Butler; three daughters, Carol J. Crawford, Dawna K. Fair and her husband, Daniel Fair, and Susan B. Geibel and her husband, Joel Geibel all of Butler; her faithful mutt, Jake; three brothers, John "Bus" Mentzer of Virginia, Thomas Mentzer of Newville, and Donald Mentzer of Butler; two sisters, Mrs. Jean Schnur and Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" McCullough, both of Butler; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald and William Crawford; a daughter, Jo Ann "Bootsie" Twyford; two brothers, James "Junior" Mentzer and William Mentzer; and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth McCool.

<B>CRAWFORD</B> — Friends of Mildred V. "Toot" Crawford, who died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery.St. Paul's Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.
