No charges in fatal accident
FRANKLIN TWP — A police investigation found there was no criminal wrongdoing in a fatal ATV accident in November.
On Nov. 27, Robert Wright, 60, of Claysville was pronounced dead at the scene after an ATV he was driving with one passenger went off a trail and into a pond in a wooded area near Zelienople Airport. His passenger, a man who police did not identify, was injured and flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Sgt. Eli Nye of the township police said the investigation into the incident did not result in any criminal charges being filed.
The ATV riders were on private property, but it was not properly posted for them to be considered trespassing, Nye said.
Though firefighters reported seeing other ATV riders leaving the scene shortly after the accident, it was simply a misunderstanding and they were trying to find help, Nye said.
