Funnel cloud was not a tornado, officials say
After investigating reports of a funnel cloud above northern Butler County Saturday night, meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh determined that a tornado did not touch down. A trained spotter reported a rotating funnel cloud at 7:40 p.m. Though a funnel cloud is often a precursor to a tornado, it does always not mean that one will touch down, meteorologist Fred McMullen said.
The Slippery Rock and Marion Township fire departments were dispatched to the reported sighting, but only found one downed tree on Branchton Road and no other evidence of damage.
