RELIGIOUS ROUNDUP

BUTLER CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE

The Caravan Children of Butler Church of the Nazarene, 4410 Oakdale Road and Route 68, will meet at 6 p.m. Friday at the church for a trip to Chuck E. Cheese at Clearview Mall. For information, contact Jim Green.

CHRIST COMMUNITY U.M.

Leaders involved in children and youth programs and activities at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 205 N. Duffy Road, are invited to attend the Safe Sanctuaries training from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Bakerstown United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joy Melton will lead the training. Prior registration is necessary and can be made by calling the church office or contacting Mel Alston.

New members will be received into the congregation during weekend worship services.

LilI Griffith will speak about her involvement with abused children during the 8:30 a.m. Sunday service.

The Chancel Choir will provide music for the Sunday morning worship service at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Money is due for tickets ordered for the Women of Faith Conference.

Tickets are on sale for the His Production, "Really Big Show," scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 30. Cost is $8 for dinner and admission to the show. Anyone wishing to donate pies for dessert should contact Janet Boardman. Child care will be available.

The tradition of Blanket Sunday will be held May 8. A blanket may be purchased for $5 and dedicated to honor or in memory of special women. The blankets are purchased through Church World Service and are distributed worldwide during disasters. Order forms are available in the church office or the church bulletin.

CHRIST'S OUTREACH

The Tom Walker Family will provide music for the Sunday service at Christ's Outreach Church, 120 Walker Ave.

COVENANT PRESBY

Angela Harkins, assistant professor of theology at Duquesne University, will lead the Seekers Class at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the Assembly Room. She will speak on "Wisdom Literature of the Apocrypha."

The Kindermuzik program will conclude with end-of-semester celebration parties at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the Assembly Room.

The Kids in Christ Klub will meet from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church.

FIRST BAPTIST

First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle St., will be among several area Baptist churches participating in a spring youth retreat from 6 p.m. Friday through 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Slippery Rock Baptist Camp, 130 Elliott Lane, Slippery Rock.

The Kingdom Seekers Sunday school class and their families are invited to a family luncheon at the Baptist Youth Center after the 11 a.m. Sunday service. Participants should take a dish to share. Beverages and place settings will be provided.

The church will conduct a service at 2 p.m. Monday at Sunnyview Nursing Home.

FIRST U.M.

Sunday school teacher training will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St.

A soup and sandwich luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in Epworth Center to benefit Scott Shaffer's mission trip to India. Cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children ages 5 to 12 and free for children younger than 5.

FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN

Family Sunday school will be held at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St.

GLADE RUN U.P.

There will be no youth group Sunday at Glade Run United Presbyterian Church, 1091 Pittsburgh Road, Valencia.

A new Sunday school class will begin Sunday. It will be a six-week study on John Ortberg's book "If You Want to Walk on Water, You Have to Get Out of the Boat."

The Mission Ministry will host an all-church birthday party/tureen dinner from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday. All birthday donations will go toward the teen and adult Mission trips and Glade Run's missionaries. Participants should take a tureen to share and table settings. Birthday cakes, dinner rolls and beverages will be provided.

The Mission Team and Youth are sponsoring a yard sale on May 6 and 7. Donations (no adult clothing) are being accepted at the church. For information, call Gloria at 724-898-1016.

GRACE @ CALVARY LUTHERAN

The Faith Shapers youth group of Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, 123 E. Diamond St., will meet at 4:45 p.m. Saturday at the church for a Hang-Out Night. Pick-up time will be 9:15 p.m. at the church. Participants should take a board game or movie and a 2 liter bottle of pop or bag of chips. Dinner will be provided.

A small group Bible study will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays for six weeks beginning this week. The discussion will focus on discipleship and will be led by Karen Lindeman. To participate, call the church office at 724-283-0830.

HILL U.P.

Gwil Price will give the message at the 6 p.m. Saturday service at Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St.

The Youth Choir and Sacred Dance Troupe of Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg, Ohio, will perform at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. A luncheon will follow in Fellowship Hall.

Sunday is the final day for the "Climb the Mountain" challenge. The Sunday school class with the highest attendance will receive a complimentary breakfast.

Youth participating in the Riverboat cruise will depart from the church at 3:30 p.m. Sunday and return at 10:15 p.m. Participants should take money for dinner and snacks.

The annual congregational meeting for the election of church officers will be held after the 10:30 a.m. service on May 1.

MERIDIAN U.P.

The Senior Youth of Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., will join the youth of the Beaver Butler Presbytery on an outing on the Gateway Clipper Fleet. They will board the ship at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and will return to the dock at 9 p.m.

NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES

NORTH MAIN ST. CHURCH OF GOD

The Western Pennsylvania Church of God Prayer Summit will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Haven. Music will be provided by the Be Louder Band.

A bake sale will be held at noon Sunday at the church. Proceeds will benefit summer events for youth.

OLD UNION PRESBY

The worship committee of Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars, will meet after church on Sunday.

"Camp W," a heartfelt comedy, will be performed during the weekend of May 20-22. Tickets and promotional material will be available soon.

An organizational meeting for the June 11 Strawberry Festival will be held after the May 1 service.

In observance of Youth Day, the youth group will lead the Sunday service. The group will then gather with other area youth groups at 3 p.m. at the Mars United Presbyterian Church for a meal and time together. After that, they will go on a Gateway Clipper Cruise and return to the church at 10 p.m. The cost is $5 ($10 if you're not part of the worship service).

THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF PROSPECT

Donations of large popcorn tins are being sought for a vacation Bible school craft project at The Presbyterian Church of Prospect, 115 Church St., Prospect. Donations can be left at the church. For information, call 724-865-2063.

ST. JOHN'S REFORMED

A men's breakfast and Bible study will be held at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Reformed Church, Route 68, Butler Township.

A gospel concert featuring Country Vision will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Participants should take a plate of cookies.

ST. MARY R.C.

The Rev. Emil Payer, pastor of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe, 101 W. High St., Kittanning, will administer the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist to the children at 2 p.m. Sunday. This Mass fulfills the Sunday obligation for all who attend. Those receiving the Sacraments are also invited to be part of the May Crowning Devotions on Sunday.

ST. PETER'S EPISCOPAL

The Daughters of the King of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 218 E. Jefferson St., will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Life in the Spirit Seminar continues Tuesday at St. Richard Roman Catholic Church, 3841 Dickey Road, Gibsonia. Students in grades 9 and up are welcome.

The pastoral council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The youth of the church will be volunteering with Habitat for Humanity from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 30.

TRINITY LUTHERAN

Communion will be served at the 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday services at Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Dr.

The Cherub and Seraphim children's choirs will lead the 11 a.m. Sunday service. The McCandless Bell Choir will also perform.

The Women of Trinity will host the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Cluster 2 gathering at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. The guest speaker will be Margaret Clawson of the YWCA.

TRINITY PRESBY

A hymn sing will be held prior to the Sunday service at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 107 Staley Ave.

A new course, "How Do You Spell Presbyterian," will be held at 9:45 a.m. Sunday and May 1 in Fellowship Hall.

A discussion of scripture and current issues will be held at noon Wednesday and May 4. Participants should take a brown bag lunch.

The youth will be taking orders for hanging baskets through May 1. Cost is $15 and orders will be delivered May 3. Proceeds benefit the youth summer camp, mission camp and youth projects.

The youth are collecting paperback books and CDs for soldiers. Donations can be taken to the church office or given to youth group members.

The youth will meet at 4 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of White Oaks Springs Presbyterian Church for a cruise on the Gateway Clipper.

Used items are being collected for a May rummage sale.

A spring work day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon April 30.

New members will be received on May 1.

An ice cream social and program will be held at 7 p.m. April 29.

WEST SUNBURY U.P.

The Rev. Carl Baughman, director of the Samaritan Counseling Center, will lead the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at West Sunbury United Presbyterian Church, 215 East Church St., West Sunbury.

The Outreach and Evangelism Committee will host a fellowship breakfast from 8 to 9 a.m. Sunday.

A church and Ministry Center cleanup day will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday. Participants should take a broom, shovel, rake or clippers. Lunch will be provided. Donations of cookies are welcome.

The North Central Senior Center will hold a breakfast and wellness clinic at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The event will include blood pressure and glucose screenings. Participants should take medications for review. For reservations, call 724-637-2959.

The pantry is in need of crackers, toothpaste, toothbrushes and shampoo. Donations can be left in the narthex.
