Julia “Gram Jul” Thompson Kummer
Julia “Gram Jul” Thompson Kummer, 67, joined her husband, Richard “Dick” Kummer, in everlasting life Thursday.
She grew up in Blacktown, Pa., with her two brothers. Together, they had many great adventures and caused a lot of mischief for their parents, the late Glenn and Julia Thompson.
Julia married Dick in 1968 and they had three children. She was a wonderful mother. One memory was going on an “adventure” (a.k.a. getting lost) in Cleveland.
She worked as a secretary at Butler Memorial Hospital until 1992, which was the birth of her first grandchild. Julia was a wonderful mother and an even greater grandmother.
Julia volunteered at Center Avenue Elementary, where she would dress in costume for holidays, lead assemblies and create craft projects with her beloved “adopted” grandchildren who all knew her as “Gram Jul.”
She leaves behind three children, Melinda Slupe and her husband, Brian, Richard Kummer and John “Kevin” Kummer and his wife, Bonnie; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Joseph Thompson and his wife, Elsie, and Robert “Don” Thompson and his wife, Shari; and a house full of craft supplies.
