Seneca Valley graduate Ashley Greene won at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles with Jessica Hilborn in leading the Slippery Rock University women's tennis team to an 8-1 win over Millersville Sunday.

The win was The Rock's fourth straight, including Saturday's 7-2 win over Kutztown and 8-1 victory over West Chester to improve to 16-3.

Laura Handy won all four of her matches on Saturday to power SRU.

SRU split a pair of doubleheaders over the weekend, losing to Indiana (Pa.) 6-3, then picking up an 8-7 win on Saturday.On Sunday againstShepherd, The Rock (12-12) lost 3-2 but rebounded with a 12-4 triumph in the nightcap.In the loss to IUP, Stacey Rhoades had a two-run homer and Kayla Ray added a solo blast to account for the team's runs. In Game 2, a five-run sixth inning, capped by a two-run double by Lisa Getgen, closed out the scoring.Against Shepherd, Rhoades had two doubles for SRU in the first game, while Getgen had a three-run triple in the second game to fuel the win.

SRU pounded out 12 hits in a 5-3 win against California (Pa.) Saturday, but dropped the second game 4-0.Phil Butch's two-run single led the way in the first game, along with a sacrifice fly and run-scoring single by Karns City graduate Travis Trimbur.Mark Tanner (3-0) went the distance to pick up the win for The Rock (14-8, 2-2).

Adam Jones tossed the hammer 162 feet, 7 inches on Saturday to earn the silver medal at the UNC-Charlotte Invitational.Jones was also sixth in the shot put (47-8.5) and eighth in the discus (126-7). Brian Dell was sixth in the hammer (143-7) and eighth in the shot (46-8) to highlight the team's performance.Also at Charlotte, Andi Rose won the women's 100 hurdles (13.99) and was second in the 400 (1:01.6) and Jennifer Hansen won the women's pole vault, clearing a school record of 12-8C\v.Slippery Rock High grad Melissa Sopher was third in the 400 hurdles (1:04.1) to highlight a strong Rock contingent.At the Western PA Championships, Patrick Regan won the men's 10K (31:55.1) and James Schneider the pole vault (15-0). Nate Hardic was second in the javelin (190-7).In the women's division, Serena Bond won the triple jump (36-7½), Jennifer Harpp the 3,000 (10:24.50) and Vera McDaniel the 200 (25.68).Susan Yuhas was second in the javelin (136-11).

Beth Choike scored five goals, Erika Brunner three goals and Sarah Sander two goals and two assists, but the SRU women's squad (3-14) dropped its third consecutive one-point loss in a 12-11 defeat to Gannon Sunday.The team lost 8-7 to Mercyhurst and 12-11 in double overtime to St. Francis (N.Y.) Saturday.

SRU (0-5) was defeated by Indiana (Pa.) 28-5 and Millersville 19-7 over the weekend.
