Man injured in ATV accident
WINFIELD TWP — A township man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital Sunday night after the all-terrain vehicle he was driving collided with a car on Marwood Road, authorities said.
Timothy Thoma, who is believed to be in his 50s, suffered a possible punctured lung in the collision about 8:20 p.m., according to emergency crews.
State police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.
Authorities said Thoma was driving the four-wheel ATV in the 400 block of Marwood Road when it collided with the car just past Holl Road. The name of the other driver was not known.
The ATV was on its side when firefighters and an ambulance crew got there. Thoma was conscious and alert but complained that he was having difficulty breathing.
The car had front end damage. The driver was not hurt.
Chief Chris Ballina of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department said his department set up a landing zone for the medical helicopter in the back yard of a home.
Thoma was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. The extent of his injuries and his condition were not known.
