Seven Fields approves noisy truck brake ban
SEVEN FIELDS — The borough should be a little quieter from now on.
Borough council Monday night approved an ordinance banning use of engine brakes, Jake brakes, by trucks on Route 228.
The ordinance prohibits “the use of engine brake retarders with improperly maintained, defective or modified exhaust mufflers” that create “excessive noise.”
The borough had received multiple complaints about noise from these vehicles, said borough manager Tom Smith.
The borough will put up signs along the highway, and officers with the Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police Department will be able to cite any drivers using the brakes.
Borough officials had filed a request for a traffic study with the state Department of Transportation, which approved passage of the ordinance.
