Beer will be flowing at Mars fundraiser

MARS — Though the next Mars New Year celebration isn’t until 2019, the community will come together in downtown Mars to begin the celebration next week.

The Mars Brew Fest, scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. June 16, is a companion celebration for the Mars New Year event, scheduled May 31 through June 2, 2019. Proceeds from the brew fest go toward renovations in the town and educational programs, according to Thomas Dorsch, committee member.

Tickets can be purchased online and at the door. The cost of admission includes a tasting glass and unlimited samples from the 18 breweries scheduled. It also includes two tickets to be redeemed at stands hosted by wineries and distilleries.

Food trucks will be on hand, and entertainment will be provided by The Noble Hops Band.

Breweries scheduled to participate include Barn Stone Brewery, Recon Brewery, Butler Brew Works, North Country Brewing, Shubrew, Stick City, Cellar Works Brewing, Missing Links, Erie Brewing Co., Conny Creek, Straub, Arsenal Cider, CR Brewing, Inner Groove, Koehler and Narcisi Winery.

Additionally, 12 to 15 home brewers from the Butler Area Society of Homebrewers will be on hand to offer selections and explain the brewing process.

Dorsch said this is the third year for the event, which has also coincided with the Mars New Year celebration. He said the last event drew more than 750 people.

“That was our baby step to kind of feel things out and put things to the test,” he said. “We’ve made a few adjustments and we’re ready to go.”

Tickets can be purchased online at marsnewsyear.com/mars-brew-fest.html.
