Tent collapses under weight of snow

Work crews from Kenmac Rentals in Butler remove snow Wednesday after a tent at the Butler Health System's COVID-19 testing center collapsed following Tuesday's snowstorm.

Snow is heavier than it looks.

A medical tent used for COVID-19 testing collapsed under the weight of snow sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning on Delwood Road.

Butler Memorial Hospital moved its virus testing site from the Brady Street Parking Lot to a parking lot at 304 Delwood Road on Oct. 26. The tent was used as part of the testing site to protect visitors from the elements. The collapse did not cause any damage nor was anyone hurt, according to Jana Panther, a spokeswoman for the hospital. Panther said the operations of the testing site also weren't disturbed by the event.

On Monday night, a snowstorm moved into the region and stayed in place Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service, parts of Butler County experienced 5 to 6 inches of snow.Panther said the weight of the snow must have caused the tent to collapse, but by late Wednesday morning, the tent was back up, she said.According to the hospital, a patient must have a physician's order to get the test.
