Tractor-trailer driver died in Sunday rollover

LANCASTER TWP — The Butler County Coroner’s office responded to the scene of a rollover crash Sunday afternoon involving a tractor-trailer.

Around 3:30 p.m., Butler County 911 dispatchers called multiple emergency agencies to a reported tractor-trailer rollover on Yellow Creek Road.

Dispatchers said the initial report only stated the driver was unresponsive, but subsequent information from the caller indicated the driver could be dead. This was followed by a firefighter canceling a response for a medical helicopter.

Dispatchers also called Butler County Hazmat Team to the scene after the caller additionally reported the tanker-style truck had rolled onto its roof and was leaking fluid onto the road.

A firefighter later responded to dispatchers to tell them the fluid appeared to be a mixture of diesel fuel and a water-based solution.

State police and members of the coroner’s office were on the scene investigating for more than three hours.

Meanwhile firefighters completely blocked a portion of Yellow Creek Road at its intersections with Woody Wilson Road and East Lancaster Road.

In addition to police and the hazmat team, Harmony, Prospect and Portersville Muddy Creek Township firefighters, as well as Harmony and Portersville Muddy Creek EMS units also assisted at the scene.
