To Grace @ Calvary, thank you

Some people just don’t know how to quit. Once the generosity bug bites you, it is hard to cure.

Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church members recently held their final service in the building after decades of serving the people of Butler. But they weren’t done yet.

From the remaining funds, the church has made a $30,000 donation to the City of Butler which is earmarked to be used for improvements for the city parks and recreation. What a thoughtful and considerate gesture by the church members.

Of course churches are exempt from having to pay property taxes to the city although some donate in order to do their fair share. The good people at Grace could have done many other things (and they may yet) with their remaining money but instead gave to the city and specifically to the children and families of Butler.

They also chose to pass ownership of the building to Glade Run Lutheran Services so that programs previously offered could continue and even expand helping more people overcome trials and tribulations.

The congregation of Grace @ Calvary has in the past and now continues to do God’s work as they see it in our community. What a blessing they are even after formally ending their organized church.

These wonderful people will be seeking and joining new church homes in Butler. They will then be blessings to those congregations as well, and the best part of that is the opportunity for all of us to learn from the lessons they have shown us about how to love and support our neighbors.

Thank you friends and neighbors of Grace @ Calvary for this tremendous gift.
