Corredo back in the game
It's “back to the future” for Joe Corredo.
This Late Model owner was teamed up with Bob Wearing Jr in the early 1990's. Together they won many races and then in 1992, Corredo decided to stop racing; however, it was still was in his blood.
Before the season started, Corredo met Ed and Gail Feree and told him that he had been thinking about returning to racing. Ed said, “Why don't we form a team,” and they sealed a deal.
Now 20 years later, Corredo brought the No. 10 Late Model back with Alex Ferree as his driver. What differences does he see after all this time?
Corredo said, “There are a lot of changes in the suspension, shocks and the rear steer.”
Freddie Bratchie and the crew at Ferree's have said that Corredo is learning the changes rapidly. As a matter of fact, they won the first race of the year at Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. Corredo has never won a championship and would really like to do that some day.
On the mend
Many of you may remember the accident that Motordrome's announcer Mike Lysakowski had in Butler last September.
He suffered two broken ankle bones, two broken foot bones, a fractured toe, and hand, broken ribs, sprained wrist and bruised both lungs. Despite this, it didn't hinder him from attending races and announcing. He used a motorized scooter to get around.
After not walking for eight months, he took hisfirst steps two weeks ago. His great sense of humor never wavered and he told us the lessoned he's learned while healing: No sneezing or coughing with broken ribs and bruised lungs. Always go home before midnight when riding a mobility scooter in Orlando. Always take a battery charger for your scooter with you.
He was the announcer at Toledo Speedway for an ARCA race and was the last one to leave on the grandstand side and the battery was dead. The only remaining team left in the pits heard him yelling and towed Lysakowski to his van with a golf cart. He has greater compassion for anyone on crutches, or riding a scooter now.
Kid's moving up
World of Outlaws driver Josdh Riochards, known as “Kid Rocket,” has left the WoO circuit and has moved to Charlotte, N.C., to build a NASCAR career.
The West Virguinia resident picked up a ride in this weekend's Nationwide Series race.
Unfortunate fall
Sis Miley, the matriarch of the Miley Family Race team, always walks with a spring in her step and never misses a race night when her kids or grandchildren are competing.
An unfortunate fall in her home has sidelined her temporarily. She broke her wrist and fractured her pelvic bone in two places and did not attend the Lernerville opener for the first time.
Her grandson Jared Miley won the Late Model race and thanks to C&B Video, Sis will see it at home. She could use some get well wishes for a speedy recovery. Cards can be sent to Sis Miley, P.O. Box 4530, Pittsburgh, Pa., 15205
Theft at Jennerstown
At the end of last season, the Jennerstown Volunteer Firemen were entertaining the idea of re-opening Jennerstown Speedway. Over the winter, thieves stripped the track of all its copper. The cost to replace this is prohibitive for them.
Around the tracks
It is” Cinco de Mayo Night” at Lernerville Friday. The children will enjoy pinata activities and if a driver wins a feature from the fifth spot on the grid, five fans will receive free admission next week.
Pennsylvania Motor Speedway will host the PENNationals, featuring the Ufo and ULMS Late Models. The winner will pocket $5,000 for the 51-lap victory.
Hopefully, Mercer Raceway Park will be able to have a show Saturday after three weeks of continual rainouts.
