1:24 p.m. Wednesday — Robert C.J. Best, 27, of Butler was arrested on a bench warrant at an apartment in the 400 block of West New Castle Street. A tip led police to Best's whereabouts.He was placed in Butler County Prison on the warrant issued May 14 after he failed to appear for a hearing stemming from a 2013 retail case, county court records showed.12:46 p.m. Wednesday — A couple ended up in the county prison after police went looking for one of them at an apartment in the 300 block of First Street apartment.Police and Butler County sheriff's deputies had a bench warrant for Anna R. McCandless, 25, when they showed up at her apartment. Officers initially found Dylan J. Hinchberger, 20, of Butler at the home. He denied knowing McCandless.However, moments later deputies spotted McCandless through a window, running from the living room to a rear bedroom. McCandless eventually admitted that Hinchberger was her boyfriend, police said.Hinchberger was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution. He was arraigned and placed in the prison on $7,500 bail.McCandless was jailed on the warrant issued May 13 in connection with a misdemeanor drug possession case earlier this year, county court records showed.

6:35 p.m. Tuesday — A pickup truck driven by Kevin D. Lynch, 27, of Pittsburgh rear-ended a sport utility vehicle stopped at a red light on Route 8 at Evans Road.Police cited Lynch for driving at an unsafe speed and driving a vehicle without valid inspection. Sharon Stehle, 56, of Butler was driving the SUV.4:17 p.m. Tuesday — Betty J. George, 48, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting $152 worth of merchandise from the Walmart at Butler Commons. George is charged with retail theft.

4:23 a.m. Monday — Jourdan Wilson, 23, of Pittsburgh was arrested after allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend at her home in the 200 block of Sunny Hill Drive.But the suspect compounded his trouble, according to court documents, when he yelled to police, “Please just take me before I have to get physical.”Wilson was arraigned on charges of simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment, and placed in the county prison on $3,000 bail.

Wednesday — A woman's purple wallet was stolen from a vehicle at the parking lot near the Grove City Borough Building on West Main Street. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.

May 15 — Police charged James E. Fleischer, 55, of Butler, owner of the former 356 Auto & Truck Repair in Summit Township, with failing to turn over all of his inspection records, stickers and other PennDOT materials after he closed his business Feb. 28.Fleischer is charged with obstructing the administration of law or other government function, a misdemeanor. He also faces a summary charge of violating the rules and regulations of the state's motor vehicle code.May 13 — Nathan M. Smith, 23, of Butler was charged with drunken driving stemming from a 1 a.m. March 28 traffic stop at South Benbrook and Lyons Road n Center Township. In addition to driving under the influence, Smith is charged with careless driving and disobeying unauthorized persons directing traffic.

4:30 a.m. May 11 — Carrie M. Evaskovich, 21, of Parker was hurt when the car she was driving became airborne after hitting an embankment and rolled over several times on Route 368 just east of Hagentown Road in Perry Township. She was taken to Clarion Hospital with moderate injuries.Police cited Evaskovich for driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, a lane violation, accidents involving damage to unattended property and not wearing a seat belt.

11:04 a.m. Monday — A vandal damaged a mailbox in the 100 block of Schultz Road in Sugarcreek Township. Anyone with information is asked to call police a 724-545-2011.
