James A. Bryan

James A. “Jimmy” Bryan, 84, of Butler, formerly of New Brighton, died Friday at the Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born April 20, 1931, in New Castle and was the son of Merle R. and Virginia Miller Bryan.

Jim was a 1949 graduate of Butler High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having proudly served his country during the Korean War.

He retired after 34 years as a salesman/driver for Stroehmann's, formerly Keystone Bakery Inc. in West Bridgewater. He also worked for the Jay Bryan Funeral Home in Prospect for many years.

He was a Presbyterian and was a member of churches in Butler, New Brighton and Prospect. Jim loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved gardening and shared what he grew. He was a good friend and neighbor. He was a member of the VFW Post 249 in Butler, Butler County Ducks Unlimited and Muskies Inc. in Pymatuning.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth A. Vargo Bryan, who he married March 7, 1958; two sons, Robert (Angelique) Bryan of Hawaii and David (Rose Marie) Bryan of New Brighton; one sister, Sally (Mel) Mandic of Florida; two grandsons, James (Mary) Bryan of Chippewa and Michael Bryan of Beaver; two granddaughters, Sarah (Doug) Willis of New Brighton and Jennifer Bryan of New Brighton; and one great-grandson, Connor James Willis of New Brighton.

BRYAN — Visitation for James A. “Jimmy” Bryan, who died Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Jay Bryan Funeral Home, 443 Main St., Prospect.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church of Prospect with the Rev. Thomas Pesci of the First Baptist Church of Monroeville, Jim's nephew, and the Rev. Steve Cort of the Presbyterian Church of Prospect officiating.Military services will be conducted by the Bantam Marine Corp Guard. Burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Prospect.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Butler VNA Hospice, VA Butler Healthcare or the Prospect Community Library.
