A young Butler woman is accused of making up a story about a break-in at her home during which she claimed to have been tied up with electronic cords.

Savanna R. Black, 19, eventually admitted that she fabricated the report earlier this month, Butler police said — and even faked her own injuries.

Police Tuesday charged her with unsworn falsification to authorities and false reports to police, both charges are misdemeanors.

Investigators said Black at 12:16 p.m. Feb. 3 called 911 to report that an unknown man had forced his way into her home at the Greenview Gardens Apartments.

She told police, according to court documents, that she had opened her door when the man grabbed her by the throat, covered her mouth and pulled her back into the apartment.

She also claimed she was holding her infant child at the time.

The man, Black said, warned her not to call police and told her “to drop the (protection from abuse order) and all this will stop.”

She told police that she did not know the man's name but remembered seeing him play basketball at Rotary Park with her former boyfriend. Court records show she has a PFA against the ex-boyfriend.

Black said the supposed assailant rifled the apartment before tying her up her with cords from electronics. She claimed that after he left she “wiggled the cords” to free herself, documents said, and called for help.

She appeared to have injuries on her wrists and ankles that were consistent with her story, according to a police affidavit. Officers canvassed the area as part of their investigation.

Black agreed to provide a written statement. But when she dropped it off at the station, officers questioned her further about her account and her history with her ex-boyfriend.

“Black later recanted her statement,” the affidavit said, “and admitted to falsely reporting the incident.”

Additionally, she admitted to tying a cord around her wrists to leave injuries that she apparently believed would bolster her story.
