Dano

Mary Dano, 90, formerly of Lyndora, died Friday afternoon at the home of her niece in Renfrew.

She was born in Lyndora on Oct. 26, 1920, a daughter of the late Frank and Julia Kocan Dano Sr.

Mary had been a telephone operator employed by United Telephone Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1986.

She was a lifelong member of St. John Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora and had been active in the ladies guild of the church. For 50 years she served as the secretary of the local Lodge 107 of the Greek Catholic Union, and was a member of the board of directors of G.C.U. for 30 years.

She had enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her younger years, and liked to make afghans, slippers and doilies.

Surviving are her sister, Julie Krelow of Renfrew; her niece, Suzette Abels and her husband, Larry, with whom she had made her home for the past four years, and their children, Kim, Larry and P.J. Abels; her nephews, John (Carol Ann) Krelow of Butler, and Greg (Debra) Krelow and their children, Nicholas and Chandler, of Renfrew; one sister-in-law, Eva Dano of Highfield; several nieces and nephews, Robert, Frank and Paul Dano, Stephanie Dano, Paulette Hutnick and Julie Bohin; along with a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Basil, Nicholas, the Rev. Paul Dano, Frank Dano Jr. and John Dano; and one sister, Helen Hriso.

DANO — Friends of Mary Dano, who died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, will be received at St. John Byzantine Catholic Church, 105 Kohler Ave., Lyndora, from 11 a.m. to noon Monday.Funeral services will be held Monday at noon at the church, with the Rev. Robert Oravetz, her pastor, officiating.
