5:52 p.m. Thursday — Sharon L. Wheeler, 58, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting $251 in merchandise from the Kmart store in the Pullman Square. Wheeler is accused of placing the items into a large bag she brought with her, and leaving the store. She was stopped outside. Wheeler is charged with retail theft.
2:53 p.m. Sunday — An unidentified car, possibly driven by a female with a dog on her lap, struck and sheared off a 9-foot support beam in front of the Howard Hanna office at Bon Aire Plaza on Route 8 north. The unknown driver did not stop.The suspected hit-and-run vehicle is described as a light-colored, four-door model, possibly a Toyota. The car is missing its right front hub cap and should have damaged to its right front end or undercarriage.Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.2:13 p.m. Thursday — Trevion Fitzpatrick, 18, of Harrisville and Anthony Ehrman, 38, of Butler were hurt when vehicles they were driving crashed on Mercer Road near Harper Avenue. Both were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.Fitzpatrick was cited for driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.Following the collision, Shaffer's vehicle struck a car driven by Kaitlin M. Harding, 25, of Boyers.All three drivers were wearing seat belts and suffered minor injuries. Hugus was cited for making an improper left turn.Monday — Police filed 10 citations against Elliott's Used Car Sales on Route 8 in Center Township for failing to submit state taxes and fees related to vehicle sales, and other dealer violations in May.Sunday — An unknown burglar stole a wallet and jewelry from a home on Moore Road in West Liberty. The break-in occurred between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. when the suspect broke a single-pane window and unlocked a door.June 3 — An assortment of collectible coins were stolen in a burglary at a home in the 400 block of Mahood Road in Center Township. The break-in happened between May 30 and June 3.June 3 — Nothing was reported taken in a burglary at a home on Lower Spring Street in Petrolia. The burglar broke a window to get into the home between May 22 and June 3.May 8 — A thief stole three runway light covers and lenses from the Butler Farm Show Airport on Route 68 in Connoquenessing Township. The property was taken between May 5 and 8.State Police, New CastleFriday — A former employee is accused of stealing nearly $2,000 and boxes of lottery tickets last month from a convenience store in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.George Pennington, 47, of New Castle allegedly falsified bank deposit slips for the Tic-Toc Food Market on Ellwood Road between May 9 and 13, when he worked at the store.Police said Pennington's phony bookkeeping made it look like he had deposited the store's receipts in the bank when he had not. Instead, according to police, he pocketed $1,920.Additionally, Pennington allegedly stole four boxes of Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off tickets. The boxes had a face value of $300 each, police said.Pennington was arraigned on felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property. He is free on $2,500 bail.
Saturday — A 5-gallon plastic container full of diesel fuel was stolen from a garage in a burglary at a home in the 100 block of Cranberry Road. The break-in happened between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday.12:54 a.m. Friday — Cole Cameron, 19, of Mercer was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at Stewart Avenue and South Center Street. Cameron, in addition to DUI, is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, underage drinking, driving with suspended registration, driving without insurance and a lighting violation.
1 a.m. today — Victoria Anne Lutz, 22, of Chicora was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after her sport utility vehicle crashed head-on into a utility pole along Route 68 near Somple Lane in Oakland Township. Lutz, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.The crash partially closed Route 68 for several hours to allow a West Penn Power crew to replace the broken pole and downed wires.2:33 p.m. Monday — Three people were hurt in a three-car wreck on Route 308 just south of Cemetery Road in Marion Township. The crash happened when cars driven by Melissa A. Hugus, 35, of New Castle and Austin J. Shaffer, 21, of Parker collided.
