Kayaker rescued at Lake Arthur

MUDDY CREEK TWP — The Butler County Water Rescue Team 300 and volunteer firefighters brought a kayaker paddling on Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park back to shore after winds blew him a mile off course Wednesday evening.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the Route 528 boat launch at 6:45 p.m. to assist the boater who was trying to paddle an inflatable kayak back to the launch.

“He was basically paddling and the wind kept him back,” said Ken Wilson, chief of the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department.

The kayaker, who regularly paddles on the lake, was found in Swamp Run Cove at least a mile from the launch, Wilson said.

He said the kayak didn’t capsize and the man didn’t fall into the water and wasn’t injured.

“He was more embarrassed than anything,” Wilson said.

The kayaker and his kayak were brought back to the launch shortly before 8 p.m.

The water rescue team, Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, Prospect Volunteer Fire Department and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources park rangers responded to the call.
